CASAS offers valuable resources to graduate students both in person and online including writing support for graduate students, thesis support, English language learner support, academic success coaching, tutors (in limited subjects).  All services can be accessed online.

CASAS provides reasonable accommodations for graduate students with documented disabilities, temporary health conditions, pregnancy-related conditions, and those who are English language learners.

Barnes and Noble University Bookstore carries graduate course textbooks, general topics books, academic supplies, graduate academic regalia for commencement, art supplies, clothing, magazines, toiletries and greeting cards.

The Hilton C. Buley Library https://libguides.southernct.edu/home maintains over 100 databases and electronic collections, and houses over half a million items including books, serials and serial back files, microforms, maps, government documents, rare books, video media, and more. It is also the home of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies and a Graduate Study Room.

The five floor facility is also home to two computer labs, the Learning Resources Center, Information Technology offices, the Department of Information and Library Science, one library instruction classroom, and quiet rooms available for individual or group study.

Librarians are available online and in person for research assistance. Online and on-ground graduate students can schedule a one-on-one personal research session to have assistance finding resources, receive basic library orientation, or to learn to use advanced research materials.

University Police

The University Police provides police services to the university population of faculty, staff and students. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be contacted by calling (203) 392-5375. The Police Department is located in Granoff Hall on the residential life side of campus.

Campus Watch Police Escort Service

University Police offers an on-campus escort service 24 hours a day for your safety. Simply call the University Police Department at (203) 392-5375, state your name, location, and destination, and, as long as your route is on university property, an officer or a student campus watch assistant will accompany you.

LiveSafe

The LiveSafe app provides students, faculty and staff with a direct connection to campus safety so that everyone can easily communicate all their safety needs.

The Student Conduct office is responsible for ensuring a fair, just and impartial conduct process for students charged with violating the Student Code of Conduct, with a goal of providing education and resources to achieve respect, civility and integrity for all members of the university community.

Violence Prevention, Victim Advocacy and Support Center (VPAS)

VPAS is committed to helping to create a campus community of respect and safety by providing violence prevention education, victim advocacy and support services. Services, information and referrals are available to students of all gender identities.

Commuter Student Services offers special programs and services for commuter students. On-Campus Dining and Food Service

SCSU’s Food Services are provided by Sodexo. There are several dining locations for graduate students, faculty and staff spread across the university campus.

On-Campus Food Pantry

The university understands that graduate students may have some trouble buying the food that is necessary for them to eat in a healthy manner during the school year, while still paying for tuition, gas, books and other expenses associated with higher education. To assist these students, an on-campus food pantry for students has been established in the back of the Wintergreen Building. Grants for Graduate Students

Grants are given to matriculated students on the basis of demonstrated financial need. The range for full-time graduate students is $200 – $3000 and the range for part-time graduate students is $200 – $1500 per academic year. http://southernct.edu/financialaid/grants.html

SCSU Foundation Scholarships

Through the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends of the University, the SCSU Foundation manages over 300 scholarships that are available to both undergraduate and graduate students. A graduate student must be enrolled in 9 SCSU credits to apply. You will be automatically matched to any scholarship whose criteria you meet. A selection team will review all qualified applicants. Student Financial Literacy and Advising Office

Need help figuring out how to pay for your education? This office makes financial literacy a priority by helping students figure out a plan to  pay for their college expenses.  Students can learn payment plan options as well as financial aid and scholarship opportunities through one-on-one advising, presentations and resources. Student Health Services plays an essential role in the health and well-being of students by providing cost-effective quality health care, health teaching and encouraging and promoting responsible health habits. Student Health Services provides information on safe sex and contraceptives, pregnancy tests and urinalysis, and for a list of medical care, laboratory and diagnostic services, medications and medical supplies available through the service. SCSU also houses lactation rooms around campus.

The Wellness Center provides information on topics including sexual health, tobacco use, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, sleep and stress. The staff facilitates health promotion activities for the campus community, including educational sessions, special events, outreach in residence halls and classrooms, and other programs. SCSU Counseling Services offers a wide variety of resources to help graduate and online students adjust to life, providing psychological support as students pursue academic and personal goals and enhance the quality of their educational experience. The Fitness Center, located in the Adanti Student Center, offers a place for graduate students to improve or maintain their physical health and fitness level. With purchase of a membership, graduate students can use a wide variety of equipment and participate in group fitness classes.

Hillel is the Jewish Culture and Learning organization on campus. It is open to all regardless of denomination, faith practice, or background. Hillel provides a safe space to gather with other Jewish students to celebrate holidays and traditions, pray, study, eat, shmooze, do social action projects and be in a fun community together.

Shabbat services are held every Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the Interfaith Office, ASC 227. Weather permitting, services are also held outdoors in the Remembrance Garden.

With 17 intercollegiate programs (seven men’s, 10 women’s), the Southern Owls are full-fledged members of the Northeast-10 Conference. The gymnastics program has a conference affiliation with the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Interfaith Office nourishes opportunities on campus for the spiritual and religious growth and faith formation for students, faculty, and staff.  The Interfaith Office recognizes the many faith traditions represented on campus and seeks to provide hospitality to all.

Family Study Room

Room 120 in Buley Library is a Family Friendly Study Space. This room welcomes and encourages student parents to bring their children to the library. The Family Friendly Study Space includes child-friendly furniture, books, toys, and a study area for parents.

Southern’s Career and Professional Development Center offers graduate students assistance with resume design, cover letters and job searches, and provides comprehensive career resources for all students.  A range of in-person and virtual programs and resources enable students to explore, define, prepare for and realize their career objectives.

Southern’s Office of Workforce and Lifelong Learning have a variety of programming to meet all of your needs. Choose from credit-level undergraduate and graduate certificate programs, non-credit and workforce training, and a variety of free and low-cost professional development opportunities.

The Registrar’s Office is responsible for course scheduling, registration and maintenance of official academic records to support current and former in person and online students. Many services may be completed online in Banner Student or students may contact the office directly for further assistance with:

The Sexuality and Gender Equality (SAGE) Center offers a positive academic, cultural and social environment for all people of sexual and gender diversities including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, questioning, and allies. The SAGE Center provides resources spanning holistic health, career development, identity and relationship support.

The Open Door Closet is also open to graduate students in need of clothing, shoes accessories, wigs and toiletries. Students can access the Open Door Closet by stopping by the SAGE Center in the Adanti Student Center room 324, and a member of our team can direct them to the closet so that they can retrieve the items that they need. Students can also call the SAGE Center at 203.392.8989 to inquire about particular items of need, and a member of our team can notify the student of the availability of the requested item. If the item is available, we can put it aside for the student for pick-up in the SAGE Center.

Getting around campus is easy when you use the SCSU Shuttle Bus Service, supervised by University Police. During the fall and spring semesters, it operates on a fixed route schedule throughout the campus and surrounding community, including to the Union Train Station in New Haven.

This Student Accounts office is primarily responsible for student billing, payment, refund, and veteran enrollment certification processing.  Students and authorized users may log in to complete most services online or contact the office for further assistance to view bills, make payments, print 1098-T tax statements, set up payment plans, sign up for direct deposit, and grant account access to parents/third parties. The Dean of Students Office assists the Vice President for Student Affairs with projects and initiatives designed to enhance student success. The Veterans’ Center provides veterans, National Guard, Reservists, and dependents with counsel, academic and career advisement, and assistance with the GI Bill and the Veterans and National Guard Tuition Waivers.  Located in Engleman Hall Room A 014, the Veterans Center is a great place to meet other veterans, socialize, network, and share military experiences ,
