Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusions offers a number of services for students that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and that support students on their educational journeys. They are in charge of cultural heritage months, the Dreamers Action Alliance and social justice related awards and events.
U-Pass
Southern Connecticut State University graduate students enrolled in on-campus courses are eligible to purchase a UPass for a $40 transportation fee, charged directly to their student account.
The UPass provides free access to trains, buses, and smaller transit services throughout Connecticut.
Graduate students can pick up their UPass at the SCSU Card Office located in Wintergreen Hall, WT 112, where SCSU student IDs are also issued. Office hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Additionally, UPasses will be available during the SGPS on-campus orientation on August 18 from 3:00–5:00 PM in Engleman Hall.
Bookstore
The Barnes and Noble University Bookstore carries graduate course textbooks, general topics books, academic supplies, graduate academic regalia for commencement, art supplies, clothing, magazines, toiletries and greeting cards.

The Registrar’s Office is responsible for course scheduling, registration and maintenance of official academic records to support current and former in person and online students. Buley Library
The Hilton C. Buley Library maintains over 100 databases and electronic collections, and houses over half a million items including books, serials and serial back files, microforms, maps, government documents, rare books, video media, and more. It is also the home of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies and a Graduate Study Room.
The five floor facility is also home to two computer labs, the Learning Resources Center, Information Technology offices, the Department of Information and Library Science, one library instruction classroom, and quiet rooms available for individual or group study
Librarians are available online and in person for research assistance. Online and on-ground graduate students can schedule a one-on-one personal research session to have assistance finding resources, receive basic library orientation, or to learn to use advanced research materials.

Graduate students can also access books, journals, and other media not available at Buley library or within the CSCU library system by using Interlibrary Loan (a free service for SCSU graduate students).
The fourth floor of the Buley Library houses the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, as well as the “Scholar’s Space”, a collaborative space for Honors College and graduate students to study, meet, and build community.
Office of Workforce and Lifelong Learning (OWLL)
Southern Connecticut State University and the Office of Workforce and Lifelong Learning have a variety of programming to meet all of your needs. Choose from credit-level undergraduate and graduate certificate programs, non-credit and workforce training, and a variety of free and low-cost professional development opportunities.

IT (Information Technology)
Online and on campus students can visit IT for help accessing MySCSU, Blackboard Learn, Office 365, Remote VPN, and resetting passwords.

The Graduate Student Affairs Committee is an organisation comprised of a variety of students from the various programs within the School of Graduate and Professional Studies. Open Door Closet
The Open Door Closet started as a modest wig and clothing drive that grew into a robust collection of clothing, shoes, accessories, wigs, and toiletries that are available to students right in the SAGE Center. Students may need to utilize the Open Door Closet for a variety of reasons at various periods during their time at Southern and are always welcome to come to get items, no questions asked. Students can access the Open Door Closet
Students are also welcome to donate clothes or toiletries to the closet.
Interfaith Office
The Interfaith Office nourishes opportunities on campus for the spiritual and religious growth and faith formation for students, faculty, and staff. The Interfaith Office recognizes the many faith traditions represented on campus and seeks to provide hospitality to all.

Financial Literacy and Advising
Southern Connecticut State University has made financial literacy a priority by helping students pay for college and manage their finances. Students learn payment plan options as well as financial aid and scholarship opportunities through one-on-one advising, presentations, and resources for college and beyond. Meeting topics range from paying for college to establishing a credit history, loan debt and repayment, education tax credits, budgeting basics and support for investing.

Graduate Student Tuition & Fees
Tuition and fees are established by the Connecticut State Colleges & Universities Board of Regents for Higher Education.
To be considered full time, graduate students must be registered for at least 9 credits per semester. Doctoral students are only considered part-time, regardless of the credit load.
Child Care
Southern understands that being both a parent and a student at the same time can be quite the challenge. Because of this, southern offers the COMPASS childcare center and external resources that parenting students have access to for their journey.

Hoot Loot Card
Hoot Loot is Southern’s ID and debit card system. It is your key into campus housing, campus food and even printing. You can deposit and withdraw funds from your Hoot Loot card to use around campus and select merchants in New Haven.
If you have a food plan, your Hoot Loot card allows you to use your meal swipes as well as your Food Loot. Food Loot is a fund that comes with your meal plan that can be used in the Student Center Food Court, Dunkin Donuts, Owl Perch, Connecticut Hall, or Roberta’s in North Campus
If your card is damaged simply bring the damaged card to the University Card Office to receive a replacement card (a replacement fee may be assessed).
If you must replace your Hoot Loot card, a $10 replacement fee is assessed for the first lost replacement card. Any replacement cards thereafter will be assessed a $20 replacement fee. To receive your new card please go to the University Card Office.

Campus Safety
University Police
Southern’s University Police department have a longstanding tradition of providing quality services to the Southern community. The safety and security of the students, faculty and staff is of paramount importance in every aspect of their duties. The department is committed to the fundamental principles of community policing, such as crime prevention, omnipresence, and partnerships.
The University police handle parking permits for the university. In order to have a vehicle on campus, you are required to complete a Southern Connecticut State University Police Department Vehicle Registration & Parking Permit Application. If you have a visitor that needs to park on campus, they must fill out a visitor parking application.

Campus Watch
University Police offers an on-campus escort service 24 hours a day for your safety. Simply call the University Police Department, state your name, location, and destination, and, as long as your route is on university property, an officer or a student campus watch assistant will accompany you.

SouthernAlert is the university’s emergency notification system, conveying important information to the campus community in the event of an emergency event, criminal activity, weather-related closing/delay/early dismissal, or other potentially hazardous situations.

Student Health Services
Student Health Services plays an essential role in the health and well-being of students by providing cost-effective quality health care, health teaching and encouraging and promoting responsible health habits. Student Health Services provdes information on safe sex and contraceptives, pregnancy tests and urinalysis, and for a list of medical care, laboratory and diagnostic services, medications and medical supplies available through the service. SCSU also houses lactation rooms around campus.

Lactation Spaces
As a Breast-feeding Friendly Campus Southern Connecticut State University offers Lactation Spaces. These spaces include amenities such as privacy curtains, storage space, access to electrical outlets, a microwave for sterilizing accessories, and breastfeeding information.

- Room 117 is located on the first floor of the Library at the center of campus. This room can be reserved through an online room reservation system. This room is locked at all times and access is provided at the Circulation Desk. This room has two pumping stations, each with a comfy chair. For privacy, there are two hospital-grade curtains. There is also a microwave to sanitize pump accessories along with other supplies available for your use.
- College of Health and Human Services
- Room 115 is located on the first floor of the CHHS building. This room has a changing station, a chair, a refrigerator, and cabinets filled with resources and supplies to make breastfeeding or pumping a comfortable experience on campus. The door requires a key to be unlocked; please email Vancourm1@SouthernCT.edu to reserve this space.
- Jennings Hall
- Room 224 is located on the second floor of Jennings Hall. This room has a changing station, chairs, multiple outlets, and a bulletin board and desktop full of information and supplies to make breastfeeding or pumping a comfortable experience on campus. The door requires a key to be unlocked; please email Vancourm1@SouthernCT.edu to reserve this space.
- Wintergreen Building
- Room 115 is located on the first floor of the Wintergreen Building on Wintergreen Ave. Many individuals enjoy utilizing this space in between work, appointments, and/or class. The room has three chairs, a changing station, and a cabinet filled with resource materials and supplies for use. The Wintergreen room is always open and locks from the inside when in use. At this time, there is no reservation system in place for this space.
- Temporary Lactation Spaces
- Breastfeeding Champions also have designated several temporary lactation spaces across campus to provide more accommodations to meet your needs. All Breastfeeding Champions have a sticker in their office or on their office doors. This sticker indicates support for breastfeeding and chestfeeding individuals on campus.
Wellbeing Center
The Wellbeing Center provides information on topics including sexual health, tobacco use, nutrition, drugs and alcohol, sleep and stress. The staff facilitates health promotion activities for the campus community, including educational sessions, special events, outreach in residence halls and classrooms, and other programs.

Counseling Services
Counseling Services offers a wide variety of resources to help graduate and online students adjust to life, providing psychological support as students pursue academic and personal goals and enhance the quality of their educational experience.
To set up an appointment, please call. At the first meeting, called an initial consultation, a counselor will meet with you for about 20 minutes to get a better understanding of your specific concerns and how to best help. At the end of the meeting, they will collaborate with you to develop a plan to address your needs, which may include one session only, ongoing individual, group, or couples counseling, or a referral to another campus office or an off-campus mental health provider. Individual counseling services provided on campus are brief and goal-directed.

North Campus
Residence Life offers several housing options for graduate students at Southern Connecticut State University. The Townhouses, as part of the North Campus Residence complex, offer comfort and location for graduate students. The Townhouses and the Mid-rise Apartments are fully carpeted, air-conditioned two-bedroom apartments, which are located close to the main academic buildings of the campus. Additionally, these apartments offer two phone lines, cable, a full kitchen with a microwave oven, and two full bathrooms. The Mid-rise offers a community study space, computer lab and a convenience store.

Commuter Student Services offers special programs and services for commuter students. You can find a variety of resources to help you as a commuter student as you navigate your way through university life. Parking
The University police handle parking permits for the university. In order to have a vehicle on campus, you are required to go to the Southern Connecticut State University Police Department and request a parking decal. You must provide them with the make, model, year, color and license plate of your vehicle. If you have a visitor that needs to park on campus, they must fill out a visitor parking application.
Registered vehicles must display their parking decal. The university reserves the right to tow or impound any vehicle that is illegally parked or parked in a way that constitutes a serious hazard, impedes vehicle or pedestrian movements, or impairs the operation of emergency equipment and/or the making of repairs. Owners will be required to pay all costs involved in removing and impounding vehicles.

On-Campus Dining
Students, faculty, and staff have their choice of several dining options, which are spread across campus. We also have a range of meal plans, tailored for different schedules and lifestyles, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and more. Campus food is provided by Sodexo.
Food Pantry
The Food Pantry can be utilized by all active Southern students. This means that anyone enrolled in a course at Southern can use the Food Pantry.

The Office of Student Conduct and Civic Responsibility is responsible for ensuring a fair, just and impartial conduct process for students charged with violating the Student Code of Conduct, with a goal of providing education and resources to achieve respect, civility and integrity for all members of the University Community.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. º1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal Law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S Department of Education.
