More than 1.75 million members have joined its ranks since Phi Kappa Phi’s founding in 1897 at the University of Maine. It is a global network of the best and brightest, a community of scholars and professionals building an enduring legacy for all generations.

Southern Connecticut State University was awarded Chapter 365 by the Phi Kappa Phi Governing Board in Fall of 2025.  The chapter was installed on March 5th, 2026 at 10:00 AM in the Business Building.

Eligibility

Membership in The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is earned, and admission is by invitation only. An invitation to join requires nomination by a chapter.

  • Graduate and professional students must have completed at least 18 semester hours/ 27 quarter hours at their institution and rank in the top 10% of their class.
  • Seniors must have completed at least 90 semester hours/135 quarter hours and rank in the top 10% of their class.
  • Juniors must have completed at least 72 semester hours/108 quarter hours and rank in the top 7.5% of their class.

In special cases, students with an exceptional GPA, and faculty, professional staff, and alumni who achieve scholarly distinction may also be eligible.

Honor societies are not all the same. Phi Kappa Phi is a member of the Honor Society Caucus, a consortium of the most prestigious honor societies in the country. The Honor Society Caucus also includes Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Kappa, and Sigma Xi.

Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is a stamp of excellence offered to the top 7.5% of second-semester juniors and top 10% of seniors and graduate students. Phi Kappa Phi membership is a stamp of excellence and there are many ways to proudly display your membership in the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society.

While all new members receive an initiation certificate, the official Phi Kappa Phi pin and a personalized member card after joining, members can share their Phi Kappa Phi pride with these resources.

Members are eligible to apply for more than $1 million in awards each year. From fellowships up to $35,000 to $1,000 study abroad grants to $1,000 Love of Learning grants, the Society has a long history of supporting the educational pursuits of its members.
