We would like to congratulate Sociology Accelerated Pathway student Susan Garlington on her acceptance into the Sociology PhD program at Georgia State University! She credits her success here at Southern to the excellent mentorship from Dr. Cassi Meyerhoffer, Dr Rosalyn Amenta, and Dr Tricia Lyn.
On August 7th, Susan will be presenting at the American Sociological Association in New York City. Her presentation is based on her undergraduate honors thesis titled Weight of the World – Why Do Plus Size Women Feel the Need to Justify Their Right to Take Up Space. At Georgia State she plans to continue her research in fat studies as well as police violence against marginalized communities, particularly sex workers, BIPOC women, and LGBTQIA people.
We applaud Susan’s dedication and wish her luck at Georgia state!
