We are proud to announce that a team of researchers including Dr Elliot Horch, chair of the SCSU Physics Department, have been awarded a new grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
The project is entitled “Speckle Surveys of Low Mass Stars,” and the other investigators are Dr. Todd Henry of the RECONS Institute and Dr. Jennifer Winters of Bridgewater State University.
The team with perform astronomical observations of approximately 5000 of the nearest stars to the Sun to determine which of them have close stellar companions. The statistics will provide key information for our understanding of both star and planet formation. It is a student-centered project and will offer opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students to get involved at all three collaborating institutions!
