Cassie Nemec is a current graduate student at Southern pursuing her M.A. in Psychology, and is also the GSGA (Graduate Assistant) in the Reading Evaluation and Development of Skills (R.E.A.D.S.) Lab. A double owl, Cassie was as a Research Assistant during her senior year of undergraduate studies as well.

Her Assistantship through the R.E.A.D.S. Lab allows her to work on investigating the efficacy of reading assessments and interventions in school-aged children
using a cross-age dialogic reading intervention. As part of her graduate degree, Cassie is completing a thesis where she is researching personality and motivation as predictors of commitment in collegiate runners. On her graduate experience thus far, Cassie shares:

“I do not want my time at Southern to end! I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Cheryl Durwin and Dr. Dina Moore for as long as I have in the R.E.A.D.S. Lab and truly would not have made it this far without all their support. Having the chance to be a part of organizations like GSA, hands-on projects, and research conferences have helped me practically apply the skills I’ve learned in the classroom and prepare me for future roles. I am immensely grateful for the opportunities and knowledge I have gained during my time here at Southern.”

Best of luck to Cassie as she continues her graduate school journey, and congratulations on all of her achievements!
