A recent graduate from Southern’s Counselor Education and Supervision Ed.D. program, Dr. Daphney Alston is making great strides in her personal and professional journey. Dr. Alston is currently the Associate Director for the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership Development at Southern Connecticut State University, where she focuses on the improvement and facilitation of student activities, leadership development, student government, service, new student orientation, and programming. She boasts 15 years of experience working in Student Affairs, and has also served as an adjunct faculty member in the First Year Experience program at Bryant University and SCSU. On her graduate experience, Dr. Alston states:

“Being part of the graduate program here at Southern helped me feel like I didn’t need to compartmentalize other aspects of my life. The professors at Southern
respected, honored, and uplifted my identities as both a fulltime professional and a mother. The course materials and content enhanced my academic journey as a student, professor, and scholar. My doctoral research examined the experiences of Black woman mid-level student affairs professionals, and upon completing my doctorate I was invited to join a nonprofit organization focused on building community, advocacy, and support for Black women scholars in higher education. Having the opportunity to apply my studies in this way makes me feel like I’m doing the work I was meant to be doing, and I am grateful to have Southern as my foundation of success.”

Congratulations to Dr. Alston on all of her achievements!
